All of Me by A.L. Jackson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
If I could give this book 10 stars I would!! A.L. Jackson is one of my favorite authors, but this book….WOW! I don’t know if I can write the review that this book deserves. I was up wayyyy too late last night finishing it – under the covers, crying, holding my breath, praying for this story to end the way it should, and I am mourning that it is over today. It blew me away. Ian is now one of my all-time favorite book heroes, and it will be hard to top him. He is so beautifully broken – a dangerous man with a battered soul. He believes himself to be the devil, when in fact, he is truly a hero.
I first met Ian in his brother’s book, More of You, and I knew he would be trouble that I wanted every part of in his book. A.L. Jackson did a tremendous job of creating a character with such a tragic past that weaves into his present. His self-loathing – his cocky and condescending attitude – his drive to make it to the top and not care about anyone in his path to get there….Oh this man! I found myself rolling my eyes at him, and wanting him to sweep me away for the night at the same time. He is all sorts of sex in a suit and he knows it. I absolutely loved the fact that when he met Grace for the first time, his world completely turned on its axis at the sight of her, and when she actually says “no” to him, I found myself laughing at his reactions and cheering her on. This man needed a challenge, and was dumb-struck it was actually happening to him.
I fell for Grace immediately. You just know this young woman is in dire straits when she meets Ian. She has reached the point of desperation, but still holds her head high and remains strong against his advances and other powerful men trying to knock her down. She is beautiful, caring, passionate, and has sooo much love to give!! As her story unraveled, my heart broke for her, and I loved her more for every part of her past I learned, and for her determination in her current situation. This girl is fierce, is loyal and protective, and will go to battle for those she loves. She has been knocked down, but will not give up. With everything she has lost and is still battling, she remains the sunshine and light in all the people’s lives who count on her. She is truly a battered Cinderella as Ian calls her.
Ian & Grace’s story is a roller-coaster ride. There is angst, passion, heartbreak, suspense, tragedy – but there is just something so special about it all. The chemistry between them is OFF THE CHARTS, but their physical attraction is only a fraction of their relationship and story. It was the transformation in Ian, his doubt in his ability to love Grace, and working through his own demons that truly pulled me into their story. This broken, dangerous and rough man will have you weeping tears of joy and sadness. He will break your heart, and have you cheering for him so badly it hurts. You will swoon so hard as he allows his walls to crumble again and again. Grace’s devotion, love and goodness are a force that Ian never saw coming, and you will want this Cinderella to get her prince and the happily ever after she deserves. This story will stay with me for a long time, and I can’t wait to read it again and again. Well done AL Jackson! “Kisses are for who you love most”
