Best of 2018!

This was such a huge year in the book world for me. I started my Bookstagram page “All Encompassing Books” in January, and started my blog at the end of Spring. By mid-Summer I was officially proofreading for authors and getting paid for what I love – reading books!

I have built some incredible relationships with authors, bookstagrammers, bloggers, PR reps, and avid book lovers. I am so thankful for this group of people who have become close friends and are so accepting!

I read 169 books this year – the most by far of any other year. Over 50 of those were 5 Stars!! I am amazed with these authors and how they challenge me, inspire me, and make me dream. I have read everything from Young Adult to Dark to Taboo and Suspense, and have loved every moment of it.

Here are only some of my favorites this year….

Review: More Than Words by Mia Sheridan

More Than WordsMore Than Words by Mia Sheridan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have to mentally prepare myself to read a book by Mia Sheridan – but it is with great excitement and anxiety fluttering in my chest. I know her books are going to rip my heart open and then somehow beautifully put it back together, and that is exactly what this one did. More Than Words was written in such a way that it magically intertwined history, music, and the bonds of childhood to create a heartfelt and passionate life story between Callen and Jessie.

“I am here to save you.” Each time this line was said in the book, I lost a little piece of my heart to these two characters. When Callen & Jessie initially meet each other they are both seeking refuge from their broken homes and lives. Their instant friendship and easiness with each other was both endearing and portrayed so naturally. I loved their world of “make believe” and “fairy tales” and how they each played a part in them as they escaped their own reality. My heart was teetering as the years went on and they each invested more in their relationship.

Oh Callen – he is both broken and a genius. He lost his way very young, but somehow managed to hold on to the one thing from his past that made him who he is as a famous composer. This tie to his childhood with Jessie was my undoing – he was so vulnerable when it came to Jessie, yet so arrogant and confident to outsiders. The way he changed from a successful and famous man to a young man acting like a kid again with Jessie was amazing. It made me fall for him although I literally wanted to smack him sometimes.

Jessie is brilliant, and I absolutely loved the parallels between her studying Joan of Arc and her own story with Callen. Mia Sheridan is a freaking genius!!!! I found myself right in the midst of the historical figure’s life and battles – then only to be thrown right back into the frenzy of Jessie and Callen’s lives. The reoccurring theme of “live fiercely and have no regrets” was so prominent and meaningful throughout the book, that you just couldn’t help but keep hoping Jessie & Callen would not give up on their dreams or each other.

Although this book spans over a couple of decades – you feel as if time stands still with Jessie & Callen. Their bond and emotional ties to the other are so strong and so real. I absolutely loved how their childhood together was just the foundation for what was to come for them. This book is definitely one of my favorites I have read this year – and I can’t wait to go back and read it again…and again. Well done Mia Sheridan!! XO

Kiss My Ash, an all new Sexy Taboo standalone Romance by Leddy Harper is releasing August 9th!

Ash Jenkins was the typical boy next door. Wait, who am I kidding? There was nothing typical about that boy.

He was tall, ripped, and had the voice of a man twice his age. Intelligent, sexy as sin, and barely legal.

Sent to live with his dad after getting in some trouble with the law, he was definitely someone I needed to stay away from.

But he had his sights set on me, and he didn’t try to hide it.

Did it still make me a cougar if I was the prey?

Review: Reckless Love by J. Saman

Reckless Love: A second Chance RomanceReckless Love: A second Chance Romance by J. Saman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Inevitably, we’re forced to make sacrifices. It’s when we sacrifice the ones we love for the things we shouldn’t that changes us.”

Oh I loved this book!! This was the first book I have read by J. Saman and I could tell from the first few pages that I was going to fall hard with this one. This is a second chance romance between Lyric, a world famous rock-star’s daughter, and Jameson, the boy she knew from childhood. I was immediately sucked into their story feeling every emotion from Lyric in the Prologue. Oh this girl was so heartbroken! After experiencing a couple of big heartbreaks of my own, and a long distance relationship, I could empathize with Lyric on so many levels and I was drawn to her. The author did a fab job making their story so real and raw.

Although you know from the beginning that Jameson is going to break Lyric’s heart – you can’t help but fall for this guy. He is my tall, dark, and handsome dream. He’s a flirt, a charmer, has the dimples, the muscles, the brains and plays college baseball!!! OH MY GOD I AM IN LOVE WITH HIM!!!!! What I also adored about Jameson is he was so open and honest with how he felt about Lyric – he didn’t hold back with her. Their relationship evolved exactly how you envision a friends to lovers to soulmates story. There were hurdles, challenges, long-distance struggles, pessimistic friends, and growing pains; but there was also lust, laughs, passion, private moments shared between the two of them as “friends”, intimate hugs that opened their eyes to more, and a love that is rare and beautiful.

I cried, laughed, and swooned hard with this book. The secondary characters, and the settings of Nashville, NYC, and SoCal were perfect. I easily could have placed myself right into this story and fallen for Jameson myself. Well done J. Saman! I’m officially a fan!! XO

Review: Father Figures by Dee Ellis

Father Figures (A Crystal Cove Holiday #8)Father Figures by Dee Ellis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book/novella I have read by Dee Ellis, and I really did not know what to expect. When I realized this story is the 8th in a series I was a bit worried I would be missing out on some characters or storyline; but you can definitely read it as a stand-alone.

This story is about a widowed father, Austin, of three girls who is moving back to his wife’s hometown to be/feel closer to her. Even after several years, he has not allowed himself to truly move on and be happy. Enter Shelby – the younger native bartender in town who catches his eye. I loved her immediately – her spunk, feisty and flirty attitude, and especially how she was with his daughters. Even though Austin could be quite intimidating, she always stood her ground and I loved her confidence and passion.

Austin was so torn between staying loyal to his wife and his vows of the past, and moving forward for both himself and his daughters. At times he made me frustrated; but I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like to move on from your first spouse and true love. The author did a fantastic job of portraying what must be a raging internal war that must go on in a widower’s mind when they meet ‘that person’ after losing the one they thought was theirs forever.

Although I typically find that novellas can be rushed in their story-telling, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It is passionate, has great secondary characters, and the descriptive scenes make you feel like you are right there on the ranch with Austin, Shelby, and three adorable daughters. Well done Dee Ellis! I’m looking forward to the next in this series.
