Excerpt

I wasn’t opposed to the occasional drunken one-night stand, but not with Evelyn. We weren’t drunk, and I wasn’t okay with an arbitrary time in the future that I may or may not see her again.

“I’ll walk you to your door,” Evelyn said as she turned off her Jeep.

“God …” I laughed, shaking my head. “That’s messed up. Now I feel a huge urgency to get my own vehicle. I think I’ll go tomorrow to buy one just so you don’t ever have to walk me to my door again.”

She climbed out. “I don’t have to stop at your door. We don’t have to play by the rules of dating. I think we’re past that age. How old are you?”

I found her hand and led her to the front door. “Thirty-five.”

“I’m thirty-four. Have you ever been married?”

We stopped at my door and faced each other. “No. You?”

She shook her head. “The rules don’t apply once you’re past thirty.”

“The rules?”

Evelyn grinned. “The courting shit. The baseball game.”

“The baseball game?” My head canted to the side.

“Yeah. The sexual bases? First base is kissing. Second base is—”

“Yes.” I fished my keys from my pocket. “I’m familiar with the bases.”

“Well, I don’t know if you’re a fan of baseball or not, but I am.”

I unlocked my door and motioned for her to go inside.

She wet her lips and stepped into my condo without an ounce of hesitation. “You’re inviting me in. So you are a fan of baseball.”

Not so much. Skiing, football (soccer), rugby, cycling, tennis … but not baseball. However, something told me Evelyn might make me a baseball fan.

“Are you sure you’re living here?” She glanced around at the sparse furnishings of my two-bedroom condo.

“I never stay in one place long. No need to own much. It’s just that much more to sell or move.”

Books.

I owned books and a place to sit and read them. My parents didn’t believe in letting Julien and I watch television while we were growing up. Julien embraced art. I embraced fiction—mysteries and sci-fi.

“What do you consider not long?” She ran her fingers along the back of my leather recliner before dropping her bag to the floor and slipping off her jacket.

“Three to five years is a nice stay.” I tossed my coat onto one of two barstools at my kitchen counter.

“Okay. So our marriage will be short.” Her teeth trapped her full bottom lip.

“Probably.”

I’d dated enough women to know there existed a sequence of events that took place way before the M word should ever be discussed. I’d never reached the point of discussing the M word. Not even with my longest relationship, which lasted two years.

Two years and we didn’t talk about marriage.

I was out of my realm of experience with Evelyn. We joked about marriage, but who joked about that? Then there was a baseball discussion happening, and I didn’t even like baseball, but I waited with restless anticipation for Evelyn to make her point. Something told me it could be brilliant.

“Kenny was a guy I dated my first year in college. He played baseball.”

I could not have cared less about this Kenny guy, but he brought her back to the baseball talk, so I folded my arms over my chest, leaned against the counter, and gave her my full attention as she walked in slow circles around my furniture. A predator with calculated moves.

Who was I to judge? I walked into her shop that day and basically said we needed to expedite our dating status—laid out my plans to eat dinner with her, close down bars, and sip hot chocolate.

“He was a solid hitter. Always got on base, but he never hit a home run. I honestly think he lacked the confidence to go for it. His coaches told him to just get on base, so that’s what he did because that’s what you do when you’re young like that. You spend a lot of time on the bases.”

Were we still talking about baseball in the literal sense?

“I think once you hit your thirties, no one should judge if you just hit it out of the park your first time up to bat.” Her lips twisted as she stopped in front of me. “The goal is to hit it home. If you can do that, then why the hell not, right?”

I thought I understood the metaphor. But if I was wrong, I could get thrown out of the game.

“Can I get you a drink?”

Evelyn shook her head.

My eyes narrowed, studying her for a few seconds.

“First base is fine.” She shrugged.

Fuck me …

A giddy laugh bubbled up from deep down. I snuck a glance at
myself in the mirror again. I was a lumpy diva, but, fuck it, I was a badass,
too. And I was slowly skidding closer to the ground as the sweat that gathered
behind my knee loosened my grip.
Every move I nailed got me a little closer to appreciating
how far I’d come. From the first days of slipping off trying to do a basic spin
with my feet planted firmly on the floor, to being a diva. This was my freaking
body and I loved the shit out of it.
And if I kept telling myself that, maybe one day I’d believe
it.
I lowered myself onto my bedroom floor with a flourish, throwing
in one more spin for my imaginary audience.
The song ended and I braced my hands on my hips, panting and
sweating like I’d run a 5k, with a grin so damn wide I felt it in my toes.
Jumping up and down, I gave myself a high five and a few club-worthy woos.
It made it harder to figure out if I was doing the tricks one hundred percent
correctly, but I sure as hell wasn’t going to record myself to watch later or
head to a pole dancing studio with full-wall mirrors. I wasn’t at that level of
okay with me in all my glory—yet.
I flopped onto my bed and stared up at the ceiling. My
hip-hugging short shorts and sports bra gave me little coverage, but pole
dancing wasn’t exactly about modesty. I’d given it a try at the urging of my
therapist during freshman year and hell if it hadn’t helped—some. It was a way
for me to build strength, body confidence, and maybe attempt to feel a little
sexy.
The door slammed downstairs and I shot up from the bed.
“Jules!” Berk’s unmistakable call sent me from pole dancing
heart racing to ‘floor it, Louise,’ careening toward a cliff. I shot up and
fell off my bed, rattling the perfume bottles on my dresser. Scrambling off the
floor, I grabbed my sweatpants and tugged them on, hopping from foot to foot
and sounding like I’d taken up bowling in my bedroom. I snagged my glasses off
my desk and shoved them onto my face.
Berk was probably wondering how I’d trapped a wild animal up
in my room. I grabbed my long sleeved T-shirt and hoodie off the back of my
chair even though it was August. The fabric clung to my sweaty skin and I
probably had a sweat-stashe going on, but that was better than him walking up
here and finding me half naked. A panic spiral shot through me and I got
dressed even quicker and threw open my door.
My feet barely touched any of the steps as I flew
downstairs.
“Berk.” I fell into the kitchen, bracing my arm against the
doorway. The butterflies in my stomach were replaced by a whole freaking
safari. I tightened my lips to what I hoped was a non-serial killer level of
smile. My heart was glowing like a spotlight, so I wrapped my arms tighter
around myself. Tingles tiptoed up and down my spine at the sight of his floppy
hair and jeans that hugged his ass and trim waist better than mine ever fit me.
His head shot up and the half of the cookie sticking out of
his mouth broke off and dropped onto the counter. “There you are.” His words
were muffled behind two manhole cover-sized cookies.
“Did you think I was hiding in my cookie box?”
“Is that what you’re calling it these days?” Killer smile
and a direct hit. “The old cookie box.”

Book Review: A Favor for A Favor by Helena Hunting

AFFAF - BT banner

“Bishop and Stevie’s relationship is pure, raw, can’t-take-your-eyes-off-the-the-page kindle crack. One of my favorite books by this brilliant author.” – LJ Shen, USA Today bestselling author

A Favor for a Favor, all-new standalone slow burn romance from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting, is available now!

A Favor for a Favor, cover

A new stand-alone romance about trading favors, battling wills, and winning love.

When I joined Seattle’s NHL expansion team, I thought it was the start of something great. But nothing ever goes the way you expect. Take my introduction to my new neighbor. She came rolling in on the hot mess express at midnight, making a racket while she tried to get into my team captain’s apartment. Did I mention that he’s married to a woman who definitely was not her?

Imagine my surprise when I end up with an injury that has me out of the game for weeks, and she’s the one to offer to help me. I should probably add that she’s not the captain’s mistress. She’s his sexy, pastel-haired younger sister.

So we come up with an arrangement: she rehabs me so that I can get back on the ice sooner, and she can add a professional athlete that isn’t her brother to her client list. Seems simple enough. As long as I can keep my hands to myself and my hormones in check.

Excerpt

She makes me lift my arm and drapes it over her shoulder. She’s incredibly small compared to me. She tucks one arm under my knee and gently grips the back of my calf with the other. “On the count of three,” she orders. I tense up when she hits three. She gets my leg about six inches off the floor, which is when I scream bloody murder again and grab on to her with both hands.

“Okay. That’s not going to work. The angle is too awkward.” She taps her lip and holds her finger up. “I have an idea.”

She ducks out from under my arm and hooks her fingers in the waistband of her yoga pants.

“What the hell are you doing?”

“Calm down. Some bathing suits have less coverage than my underwear. Besides, it’s nothing you haven’t seen before.”

She kicks off her yoga pants, leaving her in a T-shirt and panties. They’re plain cotton boy shorts, which should be a good thing, but apparently my body doesn’t care that it’s not a satin or lace thong. All it cares about is the proximity of almost-naked pussy.

Rook’s sister is standing in my bathroom in her underwear. If I had a sister who looked like Stevie and I knew that she was standing in one of my teammate’s bathrooms half-naked, I would probably kick the shit out of the guy. Thankfully, I have a brother.

I try to keep my eyes averted, sort of, but I catch her reflection in the vanity mirror.

She has fantastic legs. Athletic. Strong. And her ass. Goddamn. She definitely does a lot of squats, based on how round and firm it looks. The ache in my groin turns into that stabbing pain again because I’m getting hard. I think about my grandmother in a bathing suit to counteract the effect of Stevie being partly undressed.

She steps into the tub, and I force myself to keep my eyes down, bringing up the image of that hot chick in the tub who turns into a rotting old lady in The Shining. That helps a bit. At least until Stevie moves into my personal space and starts touching me again. I mutter a string of profanity, especially when I feel her boob pressed against my arm for a few seconds. I have no choice but to latch on to her shoulder as we lift my leg over the edge of the tub. I’m sweating, I’m angry, and I hate my dick.

“I need you to stop touching me!” It’s stupid because I’m still holding on to her, not the other way around.

“Why are you yelling at me?” she shouts back.

“Because you’re half-undressed in my tub, and I’m a guy, and apparently my dick is a fucking sadist. It honestly feels like my balls are on fire right now. A semi has never] been this painful.”

“Well, close your damn eyes and think about dead things.”

“It doesn’t matter if I close them. The image of you in panties is burned into the back of my lids, probably for the rest of my fucking life. It’s all I can see.”

“You’d think you’d never seen a set of bare legs before.” She helps me lower myself into the tub and steps out.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a pair up close,” I grumble.

“Such a surprise, with your warm, fuzzy personality.”

Her words break on a sob, and the elegant line of her shoulders trembles. “No one like you.”

I palm her breasts, squeezing the tight nipples between my fingers. Her indrawn breath tells me she likes it.

“Anything you want,” she pants, circling her ass on me. “Take it.”

“I want today with you,” I say, changing the angle of my thrust slightly, but hitting a new spot that makes her moan.

“I can’t.”

I force myself to stop abruptly and start easing out.

“No!” She reaches back and grabs my ass. “Don’t you dare.”

I stop pulling out, but don’t move. She squirms, tries to grind on my cock, but I grip her hips, holding her still.

“Son of a bitch,” she growls. “Finish me, Doc.”

“No.”

“Do you think I don’t feel how hard that cock is? You want this, too.”

“Obviously,” I force my voice to casual, like it doesn’t matter to me one way or the other. “But I want a day with you more. What’s it going to be?”

I push in and give her a quick, shallow thrust.

“Oh, yes.” She starts circling her hips, and I stop again. “Bastard!” “I’ve told you my terms.”

My cock hates me, silently cursing me in four different languages for not finishing this right now.

“One day,” she concedes breathlessly. “I can give you one day.”

I take off the reins and fuck her until we’re both shaking. We almost fall when our orgasms hit. I ease out, sit on the shower bench and set her on my lap. Greedy, thirsty, we kiss until my lips are numb, her fingers burrowing into my wet hair, my fingers tunneled into hers. I break the kiss, taking her face between my slick hands and searching her eyes.

“One day,” I remind her, panting.

She nods, sucking my bottom lip smiling. “One day.”

EXCERPT:

He throws me onto my bed. “It means that I don’t fuck just anyone. I’m in control of myself. Are you?” he asks, his head tilting to the side.

“What? Of course I am. And what about Val?” I couldn’t stop the words from spewing out of my mouth.

He chuckles, his hands coming to my ankles to drag me down the bed until I’m half hanging off. Both his fists sink into either side of my head. He presses himself against me. “Why do you care about Val and me?”

“There’s a you and Val?” I tilt my head.

“Fuck no,” he answers. “She’s the least of your worries.”

“Oh, that’s reassuring, King. Please do go on.”

His eyes narrow, his head shaking. “You’re insane.”

I shrug, coming up to my elbows. “Maybe.” I wrap my legs around his waist and push him down on top of me. “But you’re the exact same.”

His lips crash onto mine, and he’s tearing my clothes off again.

“Wait!” I push on his chest.

He growls. Straight up growls like I’ve interrupted his feast. “What?”

“You came in here for something. What was it?”

“To tell you that we’re here.” He shrugs, before he’s biting down on my skin again, and I’m moaning his name.

He stands from the bed, removing his shirt and his jeans, pushing them down to his feet. His cock is heavy in his hand as he pumps it softly. “I need those lips around my cock, Little Bird, and I need them on there now.”

Book Review: In Peace Lies Havoc by Amo Jones

In Peace Lies Havoc (Midnight Mayhem #1)In Peace Lies Havoc by Amo Jones

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amo Jones has created a new genre – Amorotica. There’s nothing that compares to it. It’s edgy, erotic, enticing, and I never want this new Midnight world to end! IPLH is A Jones’ BEST writing to date! In true Amo-fashion, she has created a world that is oh-so easy to escape to. It holds every fantasy, gorgeous being, and magical and suspenseful scenes that you just do not want to disappear or end. I did NOT want this book to end! Not only did I fall completely in love with Dove & King, but with every single character to grace the pages of this book (including some surprise cameos!)!!!

With each page, I was lured in by these salacious anti-heroes – the Brothers of Kiznitch. They are dark, powerful, intimidating, and very, very bad. My favorite type of hero. And like a drug, I was addicted…I wanted to not only experience the high they brought, but also every anticipated crash. I found myself living every scene of this book – dancing on the stage with Dove, running through the forest hiding, joking and flirting with the Brothers on the RV…because that is what A Jones does – she writes stories that you can’t help but immerse yourself in.

This book embodies everything I love about reading….it’s an escape, a fantasy, magical, erotic, sexy, suspenseful, and creates a world that I could run away to. I felt every touch and kiss, and experienced each twist and turn with quick breaths and a racing heart. A Jones brought her A-game and took it to the next level, and I am more than ready to RUN AWAY WITH THE CARNIVAL that is Midnight Mayhem. Bravo A Jones!!….I am ready for your encore.

Series: Fulton U #2

Author: Maya Hughes
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 17, 2019

Blurb

Dear Jerk Across the Street, sorry for accidentally
walking in on you and catching an eyeful of your—equipment. And hard pass on
the open invitation to join you in the shower “anytime”, A-hole.

That’s the note I should’ve written. Instead I sent a
pleasant and apologetic version.
Had I known Phoenix “Nix” Russo would’ve been the neighbor
from hell, I’d have told him right where he could shove my words.
Nix is the big man on campus with everyone lined up at his
games to make sure he knows it. Sure, he’s got piercing green eyes, abs that
don’t quit and a smile that could set fire to a set of panties from a hundred
yards away, but he’s also the biggest pain in my ass.

Dear Pink-Haired Menace, learn how to take a joke and
stop being such a kill-joy…

Elle Masterson called the cops on one of my parties—again. My sweet talking
usually gets me out of trouble, but this time it got me into a nice pair of silver
handcuffs. Now I’m on a reputation rehab tour with a stop at a spring break
community service project.

Guess who’s my new boss?
Now we’re shoulder to shoulder, sweaty, tired and…she’s not
anything like I expected. There might just be a heart under that hardass
exterior. She’s invading my dreams and I can’t shake the feeling she’s the key
to unlocking a piece of me that I’ve hidden away.
It’s only a matter of time until she finds out why I’m
really here.
Maybe I can break through her walls and into her heart
before that happens…one screw at a time.

“I’ve missed this,” he whispered against my lips.
“Me too.”
His fingers tightened around the hair at the base of my neck. Tilting my head to the side, he ran his lips over my skin, sending shivers down my spine.
One second we were standing in the middle of the pitch-black room and the next the whole world tilted. I landed against Nix’s solid chest.
“Are you okay?” I tried to push myself up.
He tightened his hold around me. “The stress balls, sweatpants, and t-shirts cushioned my fall.”
“Thank you for today.” I peppered his jaw with kisses.
“Thank you for letting me do this for you.” The outline of his erection pressed against the front of my mound. Just one inch higher…
He wrapped his hands around my waist and lifted me, perfecting the angle.
I shuddered and ground my hips against him. Someone walked by the door, but we didn’t stop—couldn’t stop.
His hands cupped my ass, dragging me harder against him. The texture of his jeans added extra sensation against my clit. I was on fire for him through two layers of clothes.
My short gasps and his low groans were the only sounds in the room other than the fabric friction.
“We should get back out there.” I raked my teeth along the side of his neck.
“You’re probably right.” His hips shot up and I wanted to scream in frustration that he wasn’t inside me, but I didn’t want to break from the thrumming pleasure rushing all over my body.
“In a second.”
“In a minute.” His tongue danced with mine in time to the rhythm of our hips. Laughter rang out in the hallway behind the door, but I couldn’t stop. If someone came in, there wasn’t anything that would stop me from dry-humping Nix into next week.

Book Review: White Knight by Meghan March

White Knight (Dirty Mafia Duet, #2)White Knight by Meghan March

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Once again I was blown away with Meghan March’s brilliant writing! I thought I knew where this book was going to go after finishing Black Sheep, but nope…in true M March fashion, she kept me on my toes and my jaw dropped! I couldn’t stop reading this book once I started…I was addicted, turning the pages faster and faster with each Chapter falling more in love with Cannon & Drew’s story.

The storytelling in this book is plain brilliant…the twists, turns and interwoven side characters all contribute to this 5-star read. I loved Cannon & Drew’s passion and connection in Black Sheep, but that was a warm up compared to White Knight. They continue to prove to one another and their families their love and loyalty to each other, and at the same time are determined to follow and accept the challenges and surprises that life handed them. They both had to dig deep to figure out their true roles and calling, and how they would go forward. But they never gave up on the other – they pushed, they fought, they loved, and they had each other’s backs. I loved every second of them together and couldn’t get enough of them.

I loved all of the secondary character cameos brilliantly divulged in this story, and know whose story is coming next. I can only hope we get more glimpses of Cannon & Drew in future books. Well done once again M March!!! I look forward to reading more about these characters and their world.

Review: Black Sheep by Meghan March

Black Sheep (Dirty Mafia Duet, #1)

Black Sheep by Meghan March

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I know that whenever I pick up a Meghan March book that I am in for an adventurous and sexy ride, and Black Sheep was no different. I absolutely devoured this first book in the Dirty Mafia Duet. It is fast-paced, angsty, suspenseful, and you will fall for both the hero and the heroine.

“Cannon Freeman is a god among men.” I loved this initial reaction from Drew when she first met Cannon face to face. Although she is supposed to be investigating him and his associates, including his father, she is immediately swept off of her feet with one look at him. From their initial meeting, their chemistry was on point – he was witty and sharp, and she was sassy and confident. I absolutely loved these two together!

As their story unravels, you will learn more and more about each of their pasts and how they have come to the point where they are today – both seem to be misled by the other, but their hidden truths do not stop them from surprisingly falling for the other. I loved how naturally their relationship developed – it felt real and authentic, and I swooned so hard over Cannon!!

This book will leave you wanting more of these characters…more of their story and their passion. It does end with a cliffhanger that will have you begging for more! Well done once again M March!
