BLURB:

Clark Griswold was onto something, at least with his annual holiday meltdown. And since the last three weeks of my life have been riddled with humbugโ€”another breakup, a broken toe, an office promotion I deserved and didnโ€™t getโ€”Iโ€™m not at all in the mood to celebrate nor have the happ, happ, happiest Christmas EVER.

When Mom insisted that we all gather at my Grandparentโ€™s ancient cabin for an old school family Christmas, I fully intended to get into the holiday spirit with the help of the three wise men, Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniels, and Jim Beam. But those boys did absolutely nothing to offset the shock or temper the sting of seeing my EX on our doorstep the first day of our holiday soiree.

Apparently, Santa missed the memo, and this elf is pissed.

Stuck for a week with the man who obliterated my heart nearly two decades ago, I did the only thing I could do and put on my game face, thankful for the home advantage.

I knew better than to drink that last cup of eggnog.

I knew better than to get tongue tangled beneath the mistletoe with the only man to ever break my heart.

I knew better than to sleep with Satanโ€™s wingman on the eve of the Lordโ€™s birthday.

I could blame the nog. I could blame the deceitful light blue eyes, thick, angelic hair, and panty evaporating smirkโ€ฆbut mostly, I blame Eli because he always knew exactly which of my buttons to push.

I foolishly thought a family Christmas filled with nostalgia was going to turn my inner Scrooge around, but this yearโ€™s festivities went up in flames. Leave it to the ghost of my Christmas past to be the one to light the match.

Fa la la la la la, FML.

The Finish Line Blurb

Secrets and Lies…

Iโ€™ve lived the entirety of my life wrapped up in subterfuge for one purposeโ€”revenge.

Through the years, I lived more as an enigma than a man.

For so long, I denied I had a beating heart of my own.

Until her. Until she unearthed the starving vessel inside, forced me to acknowledge it, forced me to understand that Iโ€™m capable of bleeding the same as any other.

For that, we paid. We’re still paying.

Yet, she demands it still, the useless heart of the ruthless thief and shameless villain she fell for. My fear is, Iโ€™m no longer that man.

With the lies Iโ€™ve told, the life Iโ€™ve led, my mistakes are beginning to catch up with me, day by day, one by one.

This is my last chance, and I have no intention of losing her again, but as the deception of my past starts to unravel and close in, shedding my humanity may be the only thing that can save us both.

Maybe itโ€™s already too late.

Blurb:

Can you live a lie?

Itโ€™s a ghost town, this place that haunts me, the one that made me.

Itโ€™s clear to me that Iโ€™ll never outgrow Triple Falls or outlive the time I spent here.

I can still feel them all, my boys of summer.

Even when Iโ€™d sensed the danger, I gave in.

I didnโ€™t heed a single warning. I let my sickness, my love, both rule and ruin me. I played my part, eyes wide open, tempting fate until it delivered.

There was never going to be an escape.

All of us are to blame for what happened. All of us serving our own sentences. We were careless and reckless, thinking our youth made us indestructible, exempt from our sins, and it cost us all.

Iโ€™m done pretending I didnโ€™t leave the largest part of me between these hills and valleys, between the sea of trees that hold my secrets.

Itโ€™s the reason Iโ€™m back. To make peace with my fate.

And if I canโ€™t grieve enough to cure myself in my time here, Iโ€™ll remain sick. That will be my curse.

But itโ€™s time to confess, to myself more so than any other, that Iโ€™d hindered my chances because of the way I was built, and because of the men who built me.

At this point, I just want to make peace with who I am, no matter what ending I get.

Because I can no longer live a lie.

Flock-IG Teaser 2

Blurb:

Can you keep a secret?

I grew up sick.

Let me clarify.

I grew up believing that real love stories include a martyr or demand great sacrifice to be worthy.

Because of that, I believed it, because I made myself believe it, and I bred the most masochistic of romantic hearts, which resulted in my illness.

When I lived this story, my own twisted fairy tale, it was unbeknownst to me at the time because I was young and naรฏve. I gave into temptation and fed the beating beast, which grew thirstier with every slash, every strike, every blow.

Triple Falls wasnโ€™t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets.

Secrets that cost us everything to keep.

Thatโ€™s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You canโ€™t re-live your own love story, because by the time youโ€™ve realized youโ€™re living it, itโ€™s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to.

Looking back, Iโ€™m convinced I willed my story into existence due to my illness.

ย

And all were punished.โฃโฃ

Blurb:

I was born to play and bred to win.

My priorities were instilled in me early onโ€”family and football. Those ideals led me to TGU and a coach whose ironclad principles mirrored my own.

With one last college season to play, my goal was singularโ€”get drafted. By realizing my NFL dream, I could save my family, our ranch, and the only home Iโ€™d ever known.

Two birds, one ball.

Playing hard was my only option, but thereโ€™s always a wild card.

For all of my planning and hard work, I never anticipated falling for the coach’s daughter. Harper was a fair catch, but who knew loving her could be the one play to throw my career before it started or that the weight of our secret would change the game.

*This is book #3 of The Underdogs Series, but you can read as a stand-alone. *Formerly published in Team Player 2 but is now a 107k full length novel with an extended epilogue.

EXCERPT:

Harper

โ€œIโ€™ve missed you, you know? More than you can imagine.โ€

โ€œCanโ€™t imagine it at all,โ€ he says, picking through a book heโ€™s not reading.

โ€œCan I help you two?โ€ One of the store sales associates asks, and I shake my head and smile. When she takes her leave, I look over to Lance who stands fuming on the other side of a table filled with loose items. Weโ€™re in a mismatch shop full of mostly cheap junk, and I canโ€™t imagine him finding anything for his mother here.

โ€œLance, I have missed you. Horribly.โ€

โ€œCould have fooled me.โ€

I can only take so much. Irritated, I lift a designer coffee mug from the table.

โ€œYou like this for your mom?โ€

โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œHow about this?โ€

โ€œNope.โ€ Heโ€™s not even looking at whatโ€™s in my hands.

โ€œYou sure? Itโ€™s a hide purse. Cute for a rancherโ€™s wife, donโ€™t you think?โ€ This gets his attention, and stormy eyes lift to mine.

โ€œWould you buy that for you?โ€

I look it over and shake my head. โ€œNot really my style.โ€

โ€œBet itโ€™s not.โ€

I can feel my ears reddening. Fuming, I eye a box on the shelf, snatch it and shove it into his chest. โ€œHow about this giant fucking purple dildo and matching anal plug!? Think mom will like that?โ€

He looks up completely unaffected, โ€œNope.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t think weโ€™re in the right place,โ€ Tossing the box down, I stalk out of the cluttered shop and into the department store next to it. Heโ€™s hot on my heels.

โ€œGot that fucking right.โ€

I turn back to see heโ€™s spoiling for a fight and release a stressed breath. Fighting with him is the last thing I want to do. โ€œLook, lets, justโ€ฆโ€ I search around and pull a sweater from the closest rack. โ€œHow about this? Simple, elegant.โ€

โ€œYou think Momโ€™s simple, huh? Iโ€™ll give her your regards.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s it.โ€ I hook the sweater back on to the rack and close the space between us, forcing his eyes to mine. โ€œGod, youโ€™re still a brute, arenโ€™t you? You havenโ€™t changed a bit. Still pig-headed as hell.โ€

โ€œPig-headed?โ€ He opens his mouth in mock shock and covers his chest with his hand. โ€œHow dare you.โ€

Iโ€™m in between fight or flight, but Iโ€™ve been dodging this long enough. My heart canโ€™t take more confrontation. I missed him too much. His eyes flare with satisfaction at my irritation. โ€œMisery loves company, right, Lance?โ€

โ€œNever said I was miserable.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t have to. Did you come to New York just to torture me?โ€

โ€œMaybe.โ€

โ€œRub it in on what Iโ€™m missing out on?โ€

A voice sounds from next to us. โ€œIs there something I can help you find today?โ€

We both turn to the woman with lasers in our eyes, and she swallows. I clear my throat. โ€œWeโ€™re fine. Thank you.โ€

Lance winks at the woman, his eyes scanning her form. โ€œMaybe you can help me?โ€

โ€œYou son of a bitch,โ€ I hiss, before walking away from the table. His voice rings out next to me as I rip through a rack of scarves.

โ€œGood to know you care, Priss, gotta admit, itโ€™s surprising.โ€

I reel on him. โ€œDonโ€™t you dare! Leaving you was the hardest thing Iโ€™ve ever done in my life. I had to make a clean break. I had just lost everyone that mattered to me. I was losing my mind.โ€

โ€œI got pissed for one day, and you went off the grid.โ€

โ€œAnd you let me go because you knew no matter how much we wanted it to work, it couldnโ€™t. You have no idea what I went through!โ€

โ€œWhat you went through? Do you know I spent six months ranting to an Uber driver named Dave because everyone on my team hated me when the truth came out?โ€ He stomps after me as I pull sweater after sweater off the rack. โ€œTroy jumped ship after he got drafted. I had no one but Tony and those fights.โ€

I turn to him with twenty sweaters in my arms. โ€œJenner? When did yโ€™all get so tight?โ€

โ€œWhen shit got tough, and my fucking girlfriend bailed!โ€ He glares down at me, his breaths coming out fast.

โ€œGuys, weโ€™re going to need you to take this outside.โ€ A woman whom I assume is the store manager approaches us cautiously.

I look around the store and see all eyes are on us, especially the women sizing him up. โ€œHeโ€™s available ladies,โ€ I snap, laying the sweaters on a nearby table, โ€œIโ€™m willing to bet he comes really cheap.โ€ Heโ€™s on my heels as I push through the glass of the department store.

โ€œOh, was I supposed to wait for you? Must have missed that memo. Thatโ€™s it, you must want a saint. Thatโ€™s why you didnโ€™t stay.โ€

โ€œI was twenty years old and alienated from a place I didnโ€™t want to be anyway.โ€

โ€œGood to know.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not the way I meant it. And you know damn well until you, I was only there to appease my Dad, who I barely speak to now.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m sorry about that, I am, but thatโ€™s on him. And what in the hell are you talking about โ€˜alienatedโ€™?โ€

โ€œForget it.โ€ I pull on my gloves as heavy snow starts to come down. โ€œI think weโ€™ve concluded our tour for today.โ€

He glances around the sidewalk. โ€œWell, no need to show me more, I hate this fucking place!โ€

โ€œAnd why is that? Not enough free-range chickens?!โ€

His eyes flare. โ€œYou digging on the ranch now, Priss? I saw a fucking rat the size of a cat on my run this morning!โ€

โ€œProbably has better manners than you, shit head.โ€

โ€œPulling out the big guns now, huh? Thereโ€™s that backbone. I was wondering where it went.โ€

โ€œGo home, Lance, you hate it here. And you obviously hate me.โ€

โ€œJust the opposite. Itโ€™s impossible, and believe me, Iโ€™m trying!โ€

โ€œWell, I hope you succeed! Thanks for stopping by, Mary Poppins. Best Christmas ever! Make sure to bulldoze the nativity scene on your way out!โ€

โ€œFuck this.โ€ He throws his hands up and eyes me warily before turning and walking away.

โ€œMerry Christmas to you, too!โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s it.โ€ I hook the sweater back on to the rack and close

the space between us, forcing his eyes to mine.

โ€œFuckthis.โ€ He throws his hands up and eyes me warily before turning and walking away.

โ€œMerry Christmas to you, too!โ€

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

I march my geriatric ass to the door and open it to see Troy fresh-faced, looking like a million bucks, even at the early hour. Due to the natural wave in my hair, and the fact I havenโ€™t showered to tame it, I look freshly electrocuted.

โ€œTroy,โ€ I say by way of greeting. My mood rapidly souring.

โ€œWhatโ€™s with all the yelling?โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œI heard you two going at it.โ€

โ€œOh, yeah, that.โ€ Mom of the year, right here. โ€œDante and I were just discussing age.โ€

โ€œIs that Troy?โ€ Dante calls from his room.

โ€œYes, eat your breakfast!โ€ I yell back.

โ€œWell, tell him to come back here!โ€

โ€œEat your breakfast!โ€

โ€œYou two need an intercom,โ€ Troy chuckles deeply, and I ignore the draw of the sound.

โ€œHe needs a muzzle. Heโ€™s far too observant, and outspoken.โ€

My son refuses to be left out of the conversation from his bedroom. โ€œTroy, did you know Mommy is five times as old as I am today?โ€

Troy winces. โ€œAh, I can see why that didnโ€™t go over well.โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s too old to be a suppled coed!โ€

Troy crosses his arms. โ€œWhat exactly were you two discussing?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s too old for you!โ€ Dante supplies, humiliating me. โ€œSo, you canโ€™t be her boyfriend!โ€

Briefly, just briefly, I imagine using Danteโ€™s pillow to silence him.

I wasnโ€™t her student, yet it was the single most defining night of my life.

Iโ€™ve never been the man she thinks I am.

Most people have no idea about the life Iโ€™ve lived or the words that ring true when it comes to meโ€”still waters run deep.

But youโ€™d be hard-pressed to find a coed on the TGU campus who knows otherwiseโ€ฆbecause Iโ€™ve never corrected them.

The clock is ticking down, itโ€™s Fourth and Inches with the ball inside the one-yard line and the focus is on me, The Guy on the Left. Iโ€™ve never felt like a football god, inside Iโ€™mโ€ฆjust Troy.

Itโ€™s time to set the record straight.

For my son, Iโ€˜ll find the strength.

In her eyes, Iโ€™m determined to gain redemption.

I will have them both, even if I have to take my eye off the ball.
